Camp Hwange, Hwange Safari Lodges

General information

Camp Hwange is situated to the northwest of most other camps in Hwange- not far from Sinamatella. Most of the other camps we recommend are situated in the south- east section of the park – this means that a combination of a few days at Camp Hwange and a few days in the south are recommended for those folk with more time on their hands.
The camp is owned and run by Dave Carson – a superb guide who cut his teeth doing mobile safaris and who is well respected in the industry.

Descriptions

The 16 bed camp is set on a small rise overlooking a waterhole in an area of open grassland. The chalets are comfortable without being “over the top” each with en-suite bathrooms and solar lighting. The main area includes the dining and lounge area and an outside fire-pit. There are plenty of areas to relax in including a small library and a bar. There is also a hide overlooking the nearby waterhole – so guests and just sit and relax while waiting for game coming down to drink.

Packages

Activities at Camp Hwange focus on walking and game drives. The beauty of these are their flexibility, like most camps in Zimbabwe the emphasis is the wilderness experience while being comfortable in camp. This means a greater degree of autonomy and where everything is centred around “where the action is” at the time. This may mean leaving the vehicle to track rhino or being summoned to come and see lion drinking at the waterhole. We highly recommend Camp Hwange for the enthusiast who wants a little more privacy (it’s not as busy in this section of the park) and who wants a genuine bush experience without sacrificing comfort.
