Sable Sands is situated at the edge of Hwange National Park, on a secluded private concession just off the famous Dete Vlei, home to the Presidential Elephant herd.
The grounds that the lodge is situated on used to be the hunting grounds of King Lobengula and are so spectacular that even Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip have payed them a visit.The lodge features a dining area with a lounge and a terrace with hammocks and bean bags for guests to relax, all overlooking the waterhole. There is also a swimming pool and a library to keep guests entertained.
This lodge welcomes children under the condition that parents take full responsibility for their kids as this environment is not suited to children due to the amount of wildlife.
The lodge offers 11 rondavel lodges that can accommodate up to 22 people, each lodge has a specially designed dorma (windows in the roof) to circulate fresh air effectively, mosquito nets & ensuite bathrooms, 9 lodges with showers & basins and 2 lodges also have a bath. The lodge boasts a large main area under thatch, opened up to the Vlei, resulting in the best possible panorama of the ever changing flora & fauna. The main area houses the restaurant, bar and lounge areas. Water is heated by old fashioned wood boilers and power is supplied by generator.

Activities on offer at Sable Sands are day & night game drives on their private estate only. Additional activities available are Hwange National Park game drives (min. 4); plant a tree, overnight in Mabale Village and guided tours of the Painted Dog Conservation centre.
