The Garden Route, also known as South Africa’s Garden of Eden, stretches about 300 km (186 miles) from Heidelberg between Swellendam and Riversdale to the Storms River Bridge in the vicinity of Tsitsikamma National Park.

Blessed by breathtaking scenic beauty, verdant hills, placid lakes and glorious beaches offering enticing attractions for the hiker, rambler, sailor and surfer.

The Whale Route is a huge attraction for the whale-watching enthusiasts. With the arrival of Southern Right Whales in June to November and peak calving season in July to August, the Garden Route provides the best land-based whale watching adventures in the world.

Whales come within 200 m (660 ft) of some beaches and visitors can watch them from strategically-placed hotels at Hermanus

Hermanus employs a “whale crier” to walk through the town announcing where whales have been seen
The flowering season displays blooms in their millions, stretching out in lovely vistas of dazzling colour
