Desert Homestead Lodge, 30km southeast of Sesriem and the entrance to Namib-Naukluft-National Park, is the perfect starting point for tours to Sossusvlei or an oasis for a relaxing rest after visiting the world‘s highest dunes. The lodge is located in a private nature reserve adjoining the Unesco World Heritage site “Namib Sand Sea”. Desert Homestead Lodge is famous for its horse safaris through the Namib desert which are suitable for experienced riders as well as beginners (under guidance of experienced riding instructors).
Arrive at Desert Homestead by lunch time, or by mid afternoon. You can enjoy a scenic sun downer ride, before returning to the Homestead and an al fresco dinner.
An early start today with scrumptious home baked rusks (local, traditional biscuit) with coffee, before heading off to Sossusvlei in and air-conditioned 4x4. You return for a light lunch, and short siesta. You then meet in the late afternoon for tea and coffee, before leaving on the first leg of the horseback sleep-out safari. The backup crew has camp set-up for the riders, as they arrive in time for sun downers. Dinner is cooked on an open fire, either a traditional potjie (small pot) or a barbecue. Dinner under the stars in the desert is an unforgettable experience.
A leisurely start to the day, with freshly brewed coffee and breakfast cooked on the fire, after which you set off on the first stage of the riding for the day. At mid morning, there is a tea stop (for human and horse!). Hammocks are strung between trees and you are off duty again until the late afternoon. A picnic lunch is enjoyed with chilled white wine. After tea and coffee and cake, set off for stage two of the days riding, arriving at your new camp in time for dinner under the stars.
After the usual scrumptious breakfast, you make your way back to the stables, where you arrive in time for a light lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a nature drive on the property, which includes a short walk to a view point with magnificent views of the area. Enjoy a good night's rest in you chalet following a three-course dinner at the lodge, accompanied by some fine wines.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, after which you depart for the Namib Naukluft Park and the gorgeous rock pools, which are found there. With a picnic lunch and some cold drinks in tow, a relaxing time is spent in the Park. You return to the Lodge in the late afternoon.

Guests meet for tea, coffee and biscuits at sunrise and then drive across to the stables. Once the horses and riders are ready and comfortable, the ride begins. The scenery varies quite dramatically, from dry river beds to massive camel thorn trees, to mountain paths and wide open grassy plains. After about two hours of riding, you reach a your breakfast - set out under a camel thorn tree, with a delicious spread of cheeses, cold meats, fresh bread and muffins, yoghurt, muesli and fruit platters. In addition there is fresh orange juice and percolated coffee. After a leisurely breakfast, you mount up and ride for another hour back to the stables.
Today you have the last opportunity to enjoy riding on this beautiful Reserve with its diversity of wildlife. After brunch, you are transferred either directly to O R Tambo International Airport, or to the Triple B Ranch to continue their holiday with Horizon Horseback Adventures.

We travelled with Falcon Safaris in Zimbabwe and Botswana for 16 days. Falcon designed a wonderful trip with private guide to the most interesting sites in both countries. The organization of the whole trip was excellent, flights within the country, accommodation and activites. The guides were very knowledgable and told us a lot about the countries, their history, people, economy and much more. We visited the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, the Victoria Falls Tour and a number of national parks in both countries.
Rhino tracking was a real adventure! We had tremendous further game drives and saw very many animals - we did the Big Five. We had much more Victoria Falls Activities than planned and enjoyed very much.We strongly recommend Falcon Safaris to everyone planning a trip to Southern Africa and East Africa.
Our Consultant Vimbai was very helpful and accommodating. We stayed at the Elephant hills hotel which was nothing short of amazing.Our activities included a helicopter flight, dinner cruise as well as a morning game drive. All the activities were absolutely amazing.
We worked with Gertrude to schedule and organize everything and she did an excellent job. I asked a lot of questions via e-mail and she answered everyone in a timely helpful manner. Our guide at Victoria Falls was also great. He met us at the airport, provided a thoughtful tour of the Falls and got us to our next guide in Botswana. Our lodgings at River View Lodge were just as described- very comfortable and excellent food. All the staff were so pleasant and helpful. If I had to do it again I would arrange a morning boat ride as well. We only did the sunset boat rides and they were the high point of our entire trip- we saw so many animals and our guide was very knowledgeable. Just a great experience. Our lodgings at Oddball's Enclave was rustic and we loved it. So great to disconnect from the world for a bit. Leo, our guide, was the best - got us out and about, saw fantastic wildlife and got back to camp safely each time. Doc manages the camp so well. This whole trip was planned and organized by Falcon Safaris and we could not have been happier.
Falcon safaris have given my the correct advice with excellent service. The only suggestion will be to work closer with the lodges to confirm bookings as soon as possible. We have booked and pay our deposit a year in advance. We have only receive our final convermation from Chobe Safari lodge a week before departure. I do realize its not within your controle but with limit alternatives and a group of 14 people it becomes an issue to find alternative accomodation if the booking was cancelled.
