The 8 Days Zambian Explorer Safari allows us to make use of small deluxe seasonal bush camps in the remote South Luangwa to explore and discover the region's big game and diverse wildlife. This is one of our most highly recommended safaris in Africa. The South Luangwa National park offers excellent game viewing in a game-rich region while still being easy to access.

Route & Itinerary

1
Day 1:Sussi & Chuma Lodge
Upon arrival at Livingstone Airport you will be met by a Falcon Safaris representative and transferred to Sussi & Chuma Lodge.
Sussi and Chuma Lodge is situated on the northern edge of the Mosi Oa Tunya Park, where luxurious treehouses hide discreetly amongst giant Ebony trees on a sweeping bend of the Zambezi River.
During the next 2 days your activities will include: game drives with experienced guides, visits to the Falls by yourself, boat cruises, fishing and an optional choice of all the 'adrenaline' extras for which the area is famous. Overnight at Sussi Lodge.

Day 2:Sussi Lodge, Zambia
Another day of excitement and romance on the banks of Africa's most spectacular river. Overnight at Sussi Lodge.

Day 3:Lechwe Plains Tented Camp, Lochinvar National Park, Zambia
Depart by private charter to the magnificent World Heritage Wetlands Site of Lochinvar National Park to Lechwe Plains Tented Camp. Each individual tent has all the comforts and privacy you require. From here you can explore the vast wetlands noted for thousands of the endemic Kafue Lechwe, Buffalo, Zebra, Wildebeest and Oribi graze the shoreline and surrounding grassy plains.
However the real drawcard is the birdlife; it's a birdwatcher's paradise with 428 recorded species ranging from the flamboyant Flamingo and Pelican through a boggling array of Waterfowl and waders to over 50 species of raptors. The sight of these huge flocks dipping and swooping in a continual wave over the water is not to be missed. Overnight at Lechwe Plains Tented Camp.

Day 4:Lechwe Plains Tented Camp, Lochinvar National Park, Zambia
A day for further exploration of the floodplains and surrounds. Other activities include a cultural village trip by banana boat into Nyimba Fishing Village, walking on the open plains, mokoro trips and fishing. Overnight at Lechwe Plains Tented Camp.

Day 5:Chichele Presidential Lodge or Puku Ridge Tented Camp, South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
Depart after breakfast by private charter for your flight to Mfuwe. Experts have called South Luangwa National Park one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world, not surprisingly since the concentrations of game around the Luangwa River and its ox-bow lagoons are dramatic.
In addition the topography of the area make it ideal for walking safaris allowing guests to explore the river and its tributaries in the care of an experienced guide. The Park is noted for its big game species particularly Leopard, Lion and Elephant and a whole host of antelope species. Overnight at Chichele Presidential Lodge or Puku Ridge Tented Camp.

Day 6-7:Chichele Presidential Lodge or Puku Ridge Tented Camp, South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
Two more days spent walking and driving in this special sanctuary. Overnight at Chichele Presidential Lodge or Puku Ridge Tented Camp.

Day 8:Mfuwe, Zambia
Transfer back to Mfuwe for your flight to Lusaka International Airport and onward connections.

We travelled with Falcon Safaris in Zimbabwe and Botswana for 16 days. Falcon designed a wonderful trip with private guide to the most interesting sites in both countries. The organization of the whole trip was excellent, flights within the country, accommodation and activites. The guides were very knowledgable and told us a lot about the countries, their history, people, economy and much more. We visited the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, the Victoria Falls Tour and a number of national parks in both countries.
Rhino tracking was a real adventure! We had tremendous further game drives and saw very many animals - we did the Big Five. Wonderful trip to Zimbabwe and Botswana with excellent organization and very competent guides
Our Consultant Vimbai was very helpful and accommodating. We stayed at the Elephant hills hotel which was nothing short of amazing.Our activities included a helicopter flight, dinner cruise as well as a morning game drive. All the activities were absolutely amazing.

We worked with Gertrude to schedule and organize everything and she did an excellent job. I asked a lot of questions via e-mail and she answered everyone in a timely helpful manner. Our guide at Victoria Falls was also great. He met us at the airport, provided a thoughtful tour of the Falls and got us to our next guide in Botswana. Our lodgings at River View Lodge were just as described- very comfortable and excellent food. All the staff were so pleasant and helpful. If I had to do it again I would arrange a morning boat ride as well. We only did the sunset boat rides and they were the high point of our entire trip- we saw so many animals and our guide was very knowledgeable. Just a great experience. Our lodgings at Oddball's Enclave was rustic and we loved it. So great to disconnect from the world for a bit. Leo, our guide, was the best - got us out and about, saw fantastic wildlife and got back to camp safely each time. Doc manages the camp so well. This whole trip was planned and organized by Falcon Safaris and we could not have been happier.
Fabulous, well planned trip
Falcon safaris have given my the correct advice with excellent service. The only suggestion will be to work closer with the lodges to confirm bookings as soon as possible. We have booked and pay our deposit a year in advance. We have only receive our final convermation from Chobe Safari lodge a week before departure. I do realize its not within your controle but with limit alternatives and a group of 14 people it becomes an issue to find alternative accomodation if the booking was cancelled.
