The Ponty Houseboat is a 16m monohull houseboat. Since January 2018, she is moored in a beautiful harbour in Binga in front of the owners, Wayne and Cheryls home. Binga is a little rural town on the shore of the Zambezi River at Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe.
The boat is powered by two 2.5litre Nissan Diesel engines. A generator provides 220Volts of electrical power to operate the fridge and 4freezers when the boat is out on the river.
The houseboat has two decks and accommodates 14 clients, but we have found 12 is a very comfortable number for the staff and for the clients to have a bed each in bedrooms. A lot of clients like to sleep on the top
Upstairs there is a spacious deck which is ¾ covered with a shade roof. The whole top area of The Ponty Houseboat is open on all 4 sides to make the most of the light, cool lake breezes and beautiful scenery. If the weather changes there are canvas drops on the sides. A dining table with 10 chairs and a serving table can be found on the top deck. A captain’s table and 8 bar stools are situated upstairs, this can be moved into the sun next to the plunge pool or kept under the shade port. A large gas braai is situated on the top deck near a lounge area where you can chill out and take in your surroundings. Two Zambezi chairs are an alternative if you don't want to be in the splash pool. There is a freezer upstairs where clients keep all their drinks cold. Most clients of the Ponty Houseboat like to sleep upstairs on mattresses which are provided with mosquito nets especially on those warm summer nights under the starry skies.
The bottom deck of the Ponty Houseboat consists of the 5 bedrooms, open plan kitchen, lounge and the back deck. Every bedroom has an overhead small fan. These are run off an inverter battery system. This system is charged in the day by the generator. All the hot water is provided by a gas geyser. Two of the double bedrooms share an inter-leading shower, loo and basin. The other double bedroom has a shower, loo and basin en suite. The twin and triple bedrooms use a communal shower, loo and basin. There is a linen cupboard, pantry cupboard and a linen room. All downstairs beds have tented mosquito nets. All bedrooms also have large windows to let in the lake breezes and beautiful views can be seen from every bedroom. Each bedroom is named after a tree found in Binga – Baobab, Marula, Teak, Ilala palm, Acacia and Mopane. The Large kitchen consists of a 5 plate gas stove, fridge and two freezers, and large working area. Hot and cold water. Adjoined to the kitchen is an open plan lounge area suitable to have meals if the weather is a bit cold or windy.

We travelled with Falcon Safaris in Zimbabwe and Botswana for 16 days. Falcon designed a wonderful trip with private guide to the most interesting sites in both countries. The organization of the whole trip was excellent, flights within the country, accommodation and activites. The guides were very knowledgable and told us a lot about the countries, their history, people, economy and much more. We visited the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, the Victoria Falls Tour and a number of national parks in both countries.
Rhino tracking was a real adventure! We had tremendous further game drives and saw very many animals - we did the Big Five. We had much more Victoria Falls Activities than planned and enjoyed very much.We strongly recommend Falcon Safaris to everyone planning a trip to Southern Africa and East Africa.
Our Consultant Vimbai was very helpful and accommodating. We stayed at the Elephant hills hotel which was nothing short of amazing. Our activities included a helicopter flight, dinner cruise as well as a morning game drive. All the activities were absolutely amazing.
We worked with Gertrude to schedule and organize everything and she did an excellent job. I asked a lot of questions via e-mail and she answered everyone in a timely helpful manner. Our guide at Victoria Falls was also great. He met us at the airport, provided a thoughtful tour of the Falls and got us to our next guide in Botswana. Our lodgings at River View Lodge were just as described- very comfortable and excellent food. All the staff were so pleasant and helpful. If I had to do it again I would arrange a morning boat ride as well. We only did the sunset boat rides and they were the high point of our entire trip- we saw so many animals and our guide was very knowledgeable. Just a great experience. Our lodgings at Oddball's Enclave was rustic and we loved it. So great to disconnect from the world for a bit. Leo, our guide, was the best - got us out and about, saw fantastic wildlife and got back to camp safely each time. Doc manages the camp so well. This whole trip was planned and organized by Falcon Safaris and we could not have been happier.
Falcon safaris have given my the correct advice with excellent service. The only suggestion will be to work closer with the lodges to confirm bookings as soon as possible. We have booked and pay our deposit a year in advance. We have only receive our final convermation from Chobe Safari lodge a week before departure. I do realize its not within your controle but with limit alternatives and a group of 14 people it becomes an issue to find alternative accomodation if the booking was cancelled.
