  • Blacksmith lapwing, Lanner falcon Goliath Heron, Sacred and Glossy Ibis, Majestic Pelican, Egyptian and Spurwing Goose, Water Thick-knee, Weavers, Pygmy, Giant and Pied Kingfishers, African Fish Eagle, and many others are some of the more popular species.
  • Some near endemic species that are not found anywhere else outside of Southern Africa like the Swynnertons Robin and the Swee Waxbill are found in the Zambezi region and you can see them.

Bird Trips On Offer

Victoria Falls Tour offers a variety of birding excursions, from multiday group Birding Safari Tours to half-day solitary excursions with a guide. You can also choose to go on an early morning trip or one in the late afternoon.

The early morning half-day trip, which takes at least four hours, is the most popular bird-watching safari. Throughout the morning, tea, coffee, and mineral waters are served along with a small breakfast

Where can I do the birding Safari ?

The Birding Safaris is available on both sides of the Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe and Zambia. There are many tour operators that offer the activity and each one may be slightly different so it is important to know what you want well in advance.

What to expect

  • Approximately 06.00: When you will be picked up from your hotel and transported to the jetty.
  • 6: 30: Departure: Enjoy a complimentary cup of tea or coffee while learning the basics of the boat ride and the birding expedition. A succinct description of the region, including the kinds of vegetation that line the river. A few of the more typical species that are likely to be encountered and the rarer specialties to watch out for on the trip will also be listed.
  • From 6:30 to 8:00 a.m.: Cruise the Zambezi River while watching birds in their natural habitat. Use local knowledge to visit specific locations where elusive species are known to frequent.
  • When the trip ends at 8:00 a.m.: A transfer van will be there to transport you back to your hotel. This journey comprises a continental breakfast including tea, coffee, muffins and other sweet delicacies.

Best Time To Go Bird Watching

Bird watching is generally an activity that is open throughout the year. It is however important to know when you will most likely see more and when you might see less.In January, the migrating birds begin to fly home. Visitors can enjoy the best bird-watching months, which run through April, from sunset to daybreak since their breeding plumage is full of flirtatious brilliance.

Advice for improved bird watching (for beginners)

  • Be silent - Birds are highly sensitive animals, making noise must scare them away so try to stay as silent as possible.
  • Prevent quick movements - Movements may scare away the birds as well so try be as calm as you can be.
  • Study the habitat - Mmake sure you study the surroundings and know what birds can be found within that area, it will help you to spot them better
  • Be Patient - Be patient, you will see the birds
  • Put the sun to your advantage.
  • Don't wear brightly colored clothing.

  • But please ask the hotel to secure your valuables in a safe.
  • Children under the age of two cruise for free, while those aged 12 to 17 pay 50% of the adult fare.
  • The entire family, especially kids, may enjoy bird watching.
