What is a traditional Village Tour ?

The Traditional Village Tour is a tour where clients have the chance to go out in the outskirts of town into the surrounding villages.

Here they observe local villagers going about their everyday duties as they are brought to an authentic rural community about 20 kilometres from Victoria Falls town.

This Victoria Falls Activities offer the visitor an up-close look at rural living, including visits to rural residences, field maintenance, and perhaps even the opportunity to assist with some of the day-to-day tasks if they wish to.

Where can I do the traditional Village Tour ?

The tour is available in both countries Zimbabwe and Zambia. So whichever side of the falls you are staying, you will be able to do the Victoria Falls Tour.

In Zambia, you will visit the famous Maramba market where you find a variety of things before proceeding to Mukuni Village where you will meet with the locals and have a chance to experience rural life.

In Zimbabwe, you will visit the Chinotimba Township (optional) before driving out to the Monde Village for your village tour.

Here we will be focusing more on the Zimbabwean village tour.

• Since the majority of people in rural Zimbabwe are subsistence farmers, they rarely connect with urban areas unless they want to sell extra produce. More interaction occurs among villagers than with the outside world.

The traditional Village Tour Experience (Zimbabwe)

• After being picked up from your hotel or lodge, you are first driven through Victoria Falls' largest and oldest township, Chinotimba, to get a feel for urban township life.
• You will move around seeing some of the local residents, churches, pubs and schools.
• You will come to appreciate the life and culture of Zimbabweans up close.

The distance to the remote community from there is approximately 15 to 20 km; some of it is on tar, but the majority is on dirt road. About 25 to 30 minutes are required to travel from town to the village.

Village of Monde

• One of the closest and most common villages you will be going to is Monde Village.
• Monde Village is located in this peaceful rural area, where you may meet the locals, make introductions, and learn about their history, culture, customs, and way of life.
• You will be shown the layout of their farmhouse, the creatures they keep, the tools and utensils they use, how their rooms are organized, the food they consume, and much more. You might help out with chores and/or meal preparation depending on when your tour is.
• You will get to have lunch with the locals and taste some of the best African delicacies and even the country's staple, sadza which is usually served with green vegetables and chicken or beef stew.

Duration of the traditional village tour

About 2 to 2.5 hours are spent on the excursion (including travel time).

• Gifts and groceries are optional. Supplies are welcomed because the village has students who attend school.

What you'll need to be aware of ?

Everyone can take this excursion, from the children to the elderly, making it ideal for families.

Tours can be scheduled at any time of day, but the best times are in the mornings and late afternoons when the village is least active due to the heat.

While it is not essential, you are welcome to bring presents.

A list of organizations in Victoria Falls that might use your help is given to you (it could be an old age home, orphanage, local clinic etc.).

After deciding which charity you want to help, you will be given a "wish list" and given the opportunity to go on a quest to find the products in and around Victoria Falls town.

You will be sent to the area to meet the beneficiaries, engage in conversation with them, and present the goods after the things have been sourced.
