Would you really say you’ve been to Victoria Falls if you haven’t gone for an adventure packed Game Drive?
With not 1 but 3 national Parks in the area, there is just so much to see and appreciate. Get the chance to hop in an open four-wheel drive vehicle spotting animals and birds. You will do this as you drive along the beautiful Zambezi terrain with small rocky sections that give you what the guides like to call an African massage.
Ready for Game Drive Victoria Falls with Falcon Safaris ?
A Game Drive is simply a must do activity for anyone including families, groups, couples, friends and even solo travellers. It is suitable for everyone from the age of 3 and does not require any level of fitness, skill or courage like some of the famous high wire Victoria Falls Activities. All you need for this activity is to brace your-self for an adventure and get ready to explore the untamed wildlife of the Zambezi.
Considering that Victoria Falls Town is located within a National Park, the game drive can begin as soon as you step outside of your hotel room. As you drive through town making your way to the national park, you might be lucky enough to spot a few animals.
The Zambezi National Park is less than 10 minutes away from town and upon arrival you will be required to pay park entrance fees if you haven’t already done so. Once that is done you will then enter the park and begin to explore as you see and spot some of Africa’s finest game.
With the exception of rhinoceros, which are an endangered species and are now restricted to high security parks only, you have the opportunity to see the majority of the animal species found in Southern Africa. You are most likely to see the rest of the big five, especially elephants and buffaloes.
You will also see a variety of antelope like kudus, elands and impala. Zebras, hyenas and giraffes are also very common and as you will be driving along the Zambezi River you can spot hippos and crocodiles as well. There are so many birds that you will end up losing count. Smaller animals like the warthogs, the monkeys and the mongoose you will also see even in town.
Each season has its own advantages and disadvantages when it comes to viewing wildlife.
The dry season tends to draw more animals in and closer to the Zambezi area in search of water and food. Because vegetation is less dense, it is easier to spot animals even from a distance. In some cases, however, animals may be sleeping or may migrate to other areas even down to Chobe in Botswana and may be a bit scarce.
The wet season tends to bring more wildlife to the area. Migratory animals and birds move into the area as life begins to sprout up again. However, the rains make the terrain muddy and difficult to travel in. Dense vegetation also makes it difficult to spot animals at times.
There are 3 options in which you can choose to do the game drive in Victoria Falls. These are, morning, late afternoon and night game drives.
The morning game drive starts off at 6 o’clock and you will be served light breakfast with teas and as well as mineral water. The afternoon drive will take off at 3 o’clock and you will be served with soft drinks, cold beer mineral waters and a light snack.
For both the morning and afternoon game drive, the total time of the activity is between 3 to 4 hours and both are really good times to spot animals. The morning drive is in addition the best time for spotting lions as these big cats are lazy during the day and may be difficult to spot. The late afternoon game drive is also a very good time to spot leopards and a few wild dogs which are quite rare in the area.
Professional guides with considerable knowledge in a variety of subjects are there to expand your understanding of animals and provide you with additional context for your Victoria Falls Game Drive Experience. You are welcome to ask them any questions and bring to their attention anything interesting or unusual that you will have spotted.
Just 12 kilometres from Victoria Falls town, on the 2500-hectare is where you find the Victoria Falls Private Game Reserve (also known as the Stanley and Livingstone Private Game Reserve). This magnificent section of African forest borders the 56 000-hectare Zambezi National Park and is bisected by the Masuwe River. People also have an opportunity to explore in this area as well.
The Big Five live in the fence-enclosed reserve (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino). This is where you will get to see the rhinos, which you won’t see in any other National Park. The rhinos are protected in the reserve by professionally trained rangers, yet they remain wild animals and are free to roam.
There is also a local lion pride and a healthy leopard population, both of which are frequently sighted. This refuge is also home to some elephants. Various other species like zebra, impala, sable giraffe and eland can also be seen.
Falcon Safaris strive to offer an educational and memorable wildlife experience, as our experienced Guides share their stories, interpretations and experiences of the bush and its inhabitants with our guests. We travelled with Falcon Safaris in Zimbabwe and Botswana for 16 days. Falcon designed a wonderful trip with private guide to the most interesting sites in both countries. The organization of the whole trip was excellent, flights within the country, accommodation and activites. The guides were very knowledgable and told us a lot about the countries, their history, people, economy and much more. We visited the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, the Victoria Falls Tour and a number of national parks in both countries.
Rhino tracking was a real adventure! We had tremendous further game drives and saw very many animals - we did the Big Five. We had much more Victoria Falls Activities than planned and enjoyed very much.We strongly recommend Falcon Safaris to everyone planning a trip to Southern Africa and East Africa.
Our Consultant Vimbai was very helpful and accommodating. We stayed at the Elephant hills hotel which was nothing short of amazing. Our activities included a helicopter flight, dinner cruise as well as a morning game drive. All the activities were absolutely amazing.
We worked with Gertrude to schedule and organize everything and she did an excellent job. I asked a lot of questions via e-mail and she answered everyone in a timely helpful manner. Our guide at Victoria Falls was also great. He met us at the airport, provided a thoughtful tour of the Falls and got us to our next guide in Botswana. Our lodgings at River View Lodge were just as described- very comfortable and excellent food. All the staff were so pleasant and helpful. If I had to do it again I would arrange a morning boat ride as well. We only did the sunset boat rides and they were the high point of our entire trip- we saw so many animals and our guide was very knowledgeable. Just a great experience. Our lodgings at Oddball's Enclave was rustic and we loved it. So great to disconnect from the world for a bit. Leo, our guide, was the best - got us out and about, saw fantastic wildlife and got back to camp safely each time. Doc manages the camp so well. This whole trip was planned and organized by Falcon Safaris and we could not have been happier.
Falcon safaris have given my the correct advice with excellent service. The only suggestion will be to work closer with the lodges to confirm bookings as soon as possible. We have booked and pay our deposit a year in advance. We have only receive our final convermation from Chobe Safari lodge a week before departure. I do realize its not within your controle but with limit alternatives and a group of 14 people it becomes an issue to find alternative accomodation if the booking was cancelled.
We love Africa's diversity and create amazing trips for you. With 30+ years of experience, we customize every trip just for you.
